Sameer Chishty joins SparkLabs FinTech as venture partner

SparkLabs Global has hired Sameer Chishty as a venture partner for its recently launched FinTech accelerator.

Chishty is the founder and chairman of Hong Kong-based merchant bank Streeton Partners, where over three years he has helped to invest more than $250m into global financial services and FinTech companies. Alongside this position, Chishty is the chairman of AsiaPak Investments, a firm which has deployed more than $3.5bn in belt and road projects.

Prior to this role, he has served as partner at McKinsey & Company and at Bain & Company, where he advised financial industry leaders and private equity investors. Chishty has also held the position of managing director at Merrill Lynch Global Wealth Management and global product line head at Standard Chartered Bank in Singapore.

Chishty is also a very active angel investor and advisor to FinTech startups.

Earlier in the year, SparkLbs launched new FinTech accelerator platform which would be based in Hong Kong, but will also support companies in neighbouring countries. This accelerator will target companies across the sector with a focus on payments, consumer finance, cybersecurity, cryptocurrency, blockchain, insurance tech, and digital banks, among others.

This year also saw the firm launch a new $100m fund focused on investing into blockchain and cryptocurrency companies.
