Smartlands is going to the States through partnership with IIP Securities

British digital tokenization firm Smartlands is looking to jump across the pond thanks to its partnership with IIP Securities, a banking consultancy.

The team-up will see Smartlands be able to use IIP Securities’ broker-dealer licence, according to CoinDesk. This would enable Smartlands to get access to the market faster than many other similar enterprises as getting a broker-dealer licence has in the past proven difficult for businesses in the sector to get a hold of.

Smartlands’ CEO Ilia Obraztsov told the publication that the company is now looking to tokenize $1bn worth of assets by 2024. Obraztsov added that the company hopes to build a one-stop shop for security token issuance, marketing and exchange in the US.

Cryptocurrencies have been in the headlines a lot recently due to the Facebook-backed Libra project, which has lost several of its other early backers. Mastercard, eBay, Visa and PayPal have all jumped ship over the past few weeks as the regulatory pressure around the cryptocurrency is growing around the world.
