UK and Swedish companies have captured almost two-thirds of investment in Funding Platforms in Europe since 2015

European Funding Platform companies have raised $384.7m across 87 transactions, with both UK and Swedish companies capturing 59.8% of the sector funding since 2015. According to Crowd Source Week, funding platforms on the continent have experienced significant growth in Europe for the last few years.

British companies operating in the subsector received 36.5% of investment amounting to $140.2m between 2015 and 2019. Crowdcube, a British equity crowdfunding platform, raised over $11.1m in a venture round led by Draper Esprit in November 2018. The funding was intended to speed up growth both in the UK and overseas, in order to satisfy increasing demand from businesses and investors.

Funding Platforms in Ireland captured 15% of European funding to the sector amounting to $57.9m since 2015. However, this was mostly driven by one large transaction in 2018. Linked Finance, an Irish funding platform, raised $57.9m in a debt financing round led by Banco BNI Europa in June 2018. The investment allowed the company to continue funding Irish SME and to grow its operations in the country.

The Other category contains companies operating in countries such as Switzerland, Spain, Belgium, etc. accounting for 15% of European investment into the Funding Platforms subsector since 2015.
