Dutch multinational bank ING is taking on four new external startups and two internal projects for its latest accelerator programme.

The accelerator is run by The Innovation Studio, ING’s open platform to experiment with new business models.

The four companies are Axyon AI, Gekko, Startup Insight and Surance.

They were chosen from 98 applicants and will now work alongside mentors and ING business units for six months to develop ideas and business models into viable products.

Each startup is sponsored by an ING business unit that will help to develop the product and trial ideas with their customers.

The accelerator programme will also host two in-house startups selected from 1,200 submitted by ING employees.

The overall winner of the internal competition was a concept to digitalise and automate commodity trade finance processes using blockchain technology.
