US pharmacy chain operator CVS has rolled out a new mobile payment solution that customers can use in-store and online.

CVS Pay will be part of the existing CVS Pharmacy mobile app and will enable the processing of all payments via a barcode scan.

Customers can upload all card and payment accounts data into the app and it generates the barcode which is then scanned at checkout.

CVS views barcodes as the cloud-based mobile payments technology which is able to offer customers the best shopping experience.

Main focus in the new product launch was the ease of use and simplification of the payment process.

The pharmacy group has initially introduced CVS Pay in a few select locations including New York, New Jersey, Pennsylvania and Delaware.

The nation-wide launch is expected later this year.
