Mobile banking startup Pockit has picked up £2.9m in new funding as it introduces a remittance service from the UK to Italy and Poland.

The funding is thought to be a bridge round prior to the Series B round the company plans to raise later this year.

The capital comes from Bridgepoint Capital partner Kevin Reynolds, Fresh Direct Colin Harris and former Card Factory creative director Stuart Middleton.

The London-based startup aims to provide an inclusive mobile banking service catering to those normally left out of traditional services.

Pockit counts 150,000 users for its banks account and debit card and aims to add more services such as overdraft and insurance products.

It says it will expand its remittance service around the eurozone with the Philippines, India, Pakistan, Bangladesh, Ghana and Nigeria added later in the year.

The company has raised more than £10m from investors including Concentric Ventures and former Manchester United manager Alex Ferguson among other angels.
