Charitable crowdfunding platform GoFundMe has acquired personal fundraising company YouCaring, for an undisclosed amount.

During the transaction period, YouCaring’s fundraisers can still collect donations and will have the ability to transfer campaigns to GoFundMe’s website. All new fundraising campaigns will be launched on the GoFundMe platform.

GoFundMe is a California-based charity crowdfunding platform which helps organisations accept donations for causes. The platform helps to fund education, medical, charity, emergencies, animals and memorials. Since the platform launched in 2010, the company has helped to raise $5bn from a community of 50 million donors.

Fellow California-based company YouCaring is also a charity crowdfunding platform which helps organisations get funds for humanitarian causes. Campaigns are free to set up and can be set up for causes such as healthcare, veterans, adoption, cancer, medical, education and mission trips, among others.

This announcement comes after a year of growth by GoFundMe which saw the company acquire and launch Crowdrise, expansion across 19 countries and transitioning to a free platform for organisers.

GoFundMe CEO Rob Solomon said, “GoFundMe and YouCaring share a common mission of making it easier than ever for people to get the support they need. With this acquisition, we strengthen our position as the place where more people can unite to make an impact far greater than they can on their own.”

Earlier in the year, fellow charity fundraising platform Lightful picked up a £4m Series A funding round, with contributions from Pink Floyd drummer Nick Mason and IndyCar champion Dario Franchitti.
