Zwipe partners with Allcard to launch biometric cards in Philippines

Payment card manufacturer Zwipe has partnered with Allcard to launch a dual-interface biometric payment cards across the Philippines.

Allcard is an end-to-end card solution provider of software solutions including outsourcing and processing services, as well as Visa and MasterCard card production. A range of solutions are available such as hosting and licensing card management, card and mobile payments tools, POS terminals, loyalty programs and fraud management services.

The companies are looking to secure the first trials within the Philippines with leading banks in Q1 2019. Due to the ‘sheer scale of the opportunity’, they are hoping commercial orders will come in H2 2019.

Allcard CEO Allieta Cue said, “We are excited to announce this collaboration with Zwipe as we believe the future of payment cards in the Philippines will be biometric.  We have the 10th fastest growing economy in the world with a young and growing population of over one hundred million people and we are committed to investing in innovation.”

Zwipe develops biometric technology for payments, access control and identity. The Norway-based company has built a payment card which has an embedded fingerprint scanner which verifies the transaction at the point-of-sale.

The EMV compliant card uses near field communication technology to take the energy it needs to power the contactless payment and fingerprint scanning/verifying.

Earlier in the year, Zwipe partnered with card manufacturer Gemalto in order to launch a fingerprint activated card pilot for the Bank of Cyprus.
