UK government takes steps to boost diversity in the country’s cybersecurity sector

The British Department for Digital, Culture, Media & Sport has launched an initiative to improve the diversity among the nation’s cybersecurity professionals.

The initiative took the form of a third round of funding through the Cyber Skills Immediate Impact Fund (CSIIF). The fund is set up to increase the number and diversity of professionals opting to work in the cybersecurity sector. It also enabled training providers able to bid for up to £100,000 to work with employers and design training programmes which retrain a diverse range of individuals for a career in cybersecurity.

Nigel Adams, cyber security minister of the UK, said, “The UK is a world leader in tackling cyberattacks but we must make sure we continue to develop the talent we need to protect the public and business online. This latest round of funding demonstrates our commitment to make sure the UK’s cyber security industry has a skilled and diverse workforce and, through our new Cyber Security Council, there are clear paths for those wishing to join the profession.”

RegTech Analyst has previously reported that investment in cybersecurity is on the rise. Between 2014 and 2018, the percentage of investment in the RegTech sector that went into cybersecurity jumped from 14.4 per cent to 20.9 per cent. Looking at the first six months of 2019, that number increased to 42.6 per cent.
