500 Startups has been the most active investor in Point of Sale solution providers globally since 2014

Point of Sale (POS) companies provide solutions that enable online and offline retailers and merchants to facilitate payments and there were 459 deals in this PayTech category completed globally between 2014 and H1 2019.

500 Startups is an early-stage venture fund and seed accelerator founded in 2010 and headquartered in Silicon Valley. The accelerator runs a 4-month seed program, investing $150k in exchange for 6% equity, and has been the most active investor in POS companies globally, with nine transactions completed between 2014 and H1 2019.

500 Startups was quite active in 2015, completing four deals that year. The firm invested in a $2.5m seed round that was raised by AutoFi, an online point of sale financing solution for auto finance, in Q4 2015. 500 Startups was joined by investors such as Laconia Capital Group, Crosslink Capital and Lerer Hippeau Ventures in the round.

The firm most recently participated in the $600k seed round that PointCheckout raised in April 2019. PointCheckout, based in Dubai, is on online payment solution provider for merchants to administer loyalty and rewards points programs. Other investors in the round include Arzan Venture Capital, Dubai Angel Investors, Dtec Ventures and Hala Ventures which are all based in the Middle East.
