More girls in the UK are interested in cybersecurity

The cybersecurity sector is struggling with diversity, but in the UK it seems like more girls are becoming interested in the industry.

That is according to new figures from the National Cyber Security Centre (NCSC). It revealed that this year there had been a 47% increase in the number of girls attending its courses compared to last year. During the same period, overall applications rose by 29%.

Chris Ensor, deputy director for growth at NCSC, said, “We’re delighted to see so many young people interested in finding out more about cybersecurity. The significant rise in female applications is especially pleasing, and something we want to see continue into the future.

“It’s never been more important to increase and diversify the cybersecurity workforce and we’re committed to nurturing the next generation of skilled experts and addressing the gender imbalance.”
