Irish 19-year-old founder behind cybersecurity startup raise $3.2m in round led by Sequoia

Evervault, the Dublin-based cybersecurity startup, has raised $3.2m in a seed round led by Sequoia Capital, the venture capital firm.

Other participants in the round included American VC firm Kleiner Perkins, London-based VC firm Frontline Ventures and the seed fund SV Angel, according to TechCrunch.

Shane Curran, the 19-year-old founder behind Evervault, set up the company, which is developing a data security solution for developers. The idea is that once applied, companies should be able to have the security built into apps from the get-go.

Sequoia Capital was one of the companies behind Indian online payment scaleup Razorpay’s massive $75m Series C round in June.

In other news, Ireland’s FinTech sector has received $981.2m worth of funding since 2014, according to FinTech Global’s data. Of that investment, 44.3% has gone into marketplace lending, 33.1% into payments and remittances, 12.7% into RegTech and 5.9% into funding platform companies.

The last 4% were divided between data and analytics, WealthTech, infrastructure and enterprise software, institutional investments and trading, blockchain, InsurTech and PropTech companies.
