British female-led startups more successful at bagging funding through Crowdcube

New research from Crowdcube suggests that UK women-led enterprises fare better on the platform than through other types of equity financing.

Looking at the numbers, 216 out of the 760 of the British new ventures funded through Crowdcube were led by female founders.

Those businesses have attracted £107m worth of investment through the platform since the company began in 2011.

Crowdcube also noted that several of the investors choosing to inject money through the platform were female. Individual women make up 21% of Crowdcube’s 220,000 investors.

Luke Lang, co-founder and CMO of Crowdcube, commented, “I’m delighted Crowdcube is in the vanguard of redressing an outrageous inequality in the equity funding world, where women still find it a major challenge in the 21st century to get capital for their idea. I’d like to see more female-led British unicorns, more women entrepreneurs, and more education and understanding around what it takes to make your own company a success.”
