Ingenico Enterprise Retail to launch open payment solution OP2GO in North America to boost smart transports

Payment company Ingenico Enterprise Retail claims to champion smart city and transport revolution with launch of new service in North America.

The business, which is part of the French electronic transaction company the Ingenico Group, will expand its services of OP2GO, its open payment solution, to North America in 2020. It had already launched OP2GO in Rio de Janeiro, Taiwan, Madrid and Rome in 2019.

OP2GO is a solution for improving ticketing platforms, including validation equipment and payment environments. It claims to be able to improve the speed and reliability of public transport services, reducing fare collection costs in some cases by over 30%, which it touts as a huge win for smart cities and the future of transport.

“Since 2015, Ingenico’s open payment solutions have been offering next-level flexibility to the transport industry, delivering payment component gateway capabilities to speed up deployment for transport integrators and operators,” said Venceslas Cartier, global head of transportation and smart mobility at Ingenico Enterprise Retail.

“In Kiev, Milan, Taiwan, Bratislava, Rio de Janeiro, Madrid and Rome, Ingenico has demonstrated its ability to deliver security, speed and flexibility to operators and we look forward to expanding our solution globally in the coming months.”

Visa is one of the companies that Ingenico Enterprise Retail has signed partnerships with for this solution. “Moving people quickly and efficiently in our increasingly crowded cities is one of the biggest challenges of our time,” said Nick Mackie, vice president of global urban mobility solutions, Visa.

“At Visa, our ongoing collaboration with Ingenico is helping the world’s leading cities make it easier than ever for people to use public transportation and adopt an open, connected, greener way to travel. We look forward to expanding our work into new countries in 2020.”
