Vetina Healthcare launches its pet insurance platform Pawtect in India

Vetina Healthcare, a developer of animal healthcare products, has launched Pawtect in India to offer medical cover for dogs.

The InsurTech startup aims to alleviate the medical expenses for pets, but offering a selection of plans for owners.

There are three plans available and supplying medical expense cover from Rs 40,000 ($529) to Rs 150,000 ($1,900).

The blue ribbon plan covers major soft tissue surgeries, third-party liability, accidental injuries and major illnesses. Its yellow ribbon plan excludes major illnesses from the four categories, while the red ribbon policy excludes accidental injuries.

Some of the additional benefits include removal of consultation/examination fees, emergency care and surgeries, laboratory tests for diagnosis, X-rays, MRI, CT Scans for diagnosis, no hospitalisation/boarding charges, and access to drugs and medications.

It also covers pet medical expenses such as vaccinations, deworming, check-ups, grooming, stem cell therapy, laser therapy, blood transfusion and plasma therapy.

Vetina Healthcare founder and CEO Prakash Khaire said, “In countries such as UK, Australia, Canada, US, etc. pet insurance is already a practise. However, as per a rough estimate last year, less than two per cent of pet parents in India have been taking health insurance for their pets.

“With the recent changing trend, Indians in metros as well as Tier 2 cities are slowly taking the wellbeing and even grooming of their pets rather seriously. With our Medical cover plans, we want to make treatment of a pet affordable which will be boom for the Pet Practitioners since those currently avoiding or delaying the  treatments will come forward for the treatment.”
