Germany has announced that it is putting €350m ($412m) into launching a federal agency to protect the nation against digital threats.
The cybersecurity agency is the result of a governmental decision from 2018 and it will aim to coordinate research that will create actionable insights to fig online threats and bad actors, according to Deutsche Welle.
The cybersecurity agency will initially be headquartered in the city Halle before being moved to the Leipzig/Halle airport.
The decision to place the agency there was partly motivated by a desire to breathe new life into the labour market in the region, which has suffered because of Germany’s decision to move away from brown coal as an energy source.
