Revolut launches web app for computers

UK neobank Revolut has launched an online web app enabling its 13 million customers around the world to access their accounts via a desktop or laptop.

The app will be available for users across European Economic Area, Australia, Canada, Singapore, Switzerland, Japan and the United States.

The challenger bank said that customers will be able to access their finances in a secure and safe way via a two-factor authentication system, and then have a complete overview of their Revolut account, transaction history and cards.

They can also freeze/unfreeze their cards, block/unblock their PIN and toggle all other card security settings on or off in a few clicks.

Nik Storonsky, the CEO and founder at Revolut who was recently named the UK’s first tech billionaire, said that being able to access accounts via a laptop or desktop browser has been “highly requested by our customers”.

“Our customers can now access their money anywhere and at any time, even if they don’t have their phone or card, or if they simply prefer checking their account from a computer,” he said. “It’s great to have the extra convenience and flexibility of an online option.”

Two-tier customer authentication was introduced by the strong customer authentication rules introduced in the EU’s second Payment Services Directive (PSD2).

The rules stipulate that customers must verify their identities in at least two different ways whenever an electronic payment is made.

The rules were officially implemented in September 2019 and are gradually being enforced. The deadline to have introduced systems to follow them is on December 31, 2020.
