Robert Downey Jr. backs FinTech platform Aspiration’s $50m raise

Environmentally friendly FinTech platform Aspiration has reportedly netted $50m in a new funding round.

The capital injection was led by Robert Downey Jr’s Footprint Coalition Ventures, according to a report from Crunchbase News. Footprint is an investment firm focused on technology companies aimed at restoring the earth.

Aspiration offers a range of financial services, including investing, donating, retirement planning, spending and more. Its aim is to give consumers access to a financial services platform that is contributing to improving the environment.

One of its services, consumers can plant a tree with every purchase and make investments into sustainable projects.

Some of the other features include access to 55,000 ATMs, up to 10% cashback on Conscience Coalition purchases, up to 1,000% APY on savings and more.

There have been a handful of environment-focused FinTech companies to launch over the year. European challenger bank bunq plants a tree in Madagascar for every €100 spent through its card. Its goal is to plant one million trees by February 2021.
