HSBC Qatar introduces mobile payments service in banking digitisation push

HSBC Qatar has unveiled a new mobile payments and collections service for its customers as it continues its investment into digitising banking services.

 The new service will enable HSBC to provide financial inclusion for the unbanked and visitors to Qatar, a development that is closely linked with the bank’s strategy and ambitions of the regulator and financial sector in Qatar.

According to HSBC, the new solution will provide a ‘more convenient and secure way to pay bills, transfer money from person to person and purchase goods from registered merchants.

Customers will be able to make instant local transfers to pay their bills and payments to businesses or transfer the money to another person through the use of a QR code.

The service can be accessed through the HSBC mobile banking app, with merchants also benefitting by registering with HSBC on HSBCnet and obtaining the mobile collections services.

HSBC claims this is above point will enable corporates to provide an additional way for its customers to pay for their purchases and provide their sales force with an option to collect payment for a service. It will also allow corporates to provide a way to its customers to pay for their online purchases using a wallet app.
