Bill-splitting feature to be piloted on Facebook Messenger

Facebook Messenger is set to test Split Payments, a feature that will let users to share the cost of bills and expenses from within a Messenger group chat.

For users to split payments, they will need to click the ‘Get Started’ button in a group chat or through the Payments Hub in the Messenger app. Following this, users can split a bill evenly on modify the amount to be contributed for each person.

After providing a personalised message and confirming Facebook Pay details, the payment request will be sent and is then viewable in the group chat thread.

The feature – which will be free – will be tested within a small group of users in the US from next week.

Earlier this year, Facebook partnered with Indian online lending firm Indifi to help provide loans to small domestic businesses, as part of a push to bring more businesses to advertise on its platform.
