Polar Security ices $8.5m seed funding following stealth period

Israeli cloud security firm Polar Security has bagged $8.5m from a seed funding round following a period of stealth by the company.

The round was headed by Glilot Capital Partners and also saw participation from the IBI Tech Fund. Angel investors taking part in the round included Cloud Security Alliance co-founder and CEO Jim Reavis, former RSA CTO Tim Belcher, Qualys former president Ann Johnson and VP and GM of IBM Security Tom Noonan.

Founded in 2021, Polar claims it is the first solution to automate cloud data security and compliance – regardless of where a user’s sensitive data is and however fast develops create it.

Polar has developed the agentless Data Security Posture Management platform that automatically finds where a user’s data stores are, what sensitive data is inside and where the data is moving to find data vulnerabilities and compliance violations.

According to Security Week, Polar’s platform has three primary layers of data discovery, data classification and data flow mapping. Discovery involves scanning the company’s entire cloud infrastructure, classification is the determination of sensitive data within these locations and mapping is to map both existing and potential data flows.
