New CyberTech launches out of stealth

Island is a new cybersecurity platform that launched from stealth with $100m in funding.

The capital was supplied by investors including Insight Partners, Sequoia Capital, Cyberstarts and Stripes.

Headquartered in Texas, the company was founded by former Symantec COO Mike Fey and Fireglass founder and CTO Dan Amiga. Its solution, which has been in development for two years, aims to bolster the security of consumer-focused browsers.

Its Enterprise Browser solution is allegedly the first browser to provide end-users with the same “Chromium-based” experience the expect, while giving them better security. Security teams can control last-mile actions from advanced security demands to more basic data exfiltration protections, including copy, paste, download, upload, screenshots and other activities that might leave data exposed.

Island co-founder and CEO Mike Fey said, “For decades, organizations have globally utilized consumer browsers in the corporate computing environment.

“These organizations require strong control and governance, which consumer browsers were never built to deliver. Island uniquely provides manageability, control, security and enhanced productivity features from within the browser itself, while users enjoy a familiar browsing experience. We envision the Enterprise Browser fundamentally improving not just security, but enterprise work itself.”

Earlier in the week, fellow CyberTech company Pixm netted $4.3m in seed funding. The company aims to protect users from phishing attacks that lurk in emails and other areas of the web.
