• In total 409 unique investors drove Latin America’s FinTech sector in H1 2022 with Y Combinator, an American based technology startup accelerator, accounting for the most deals at seven in total. As of 12th September 2022, Y Combinator’s founded companies in the region have raised $4.7bn and have a combined valuation of $19.7bn. From Y Combinator’s Top Private Companies in 2022 list, 17 were Latin American companies compared to none in 2020 showing the massive uptick in interest in the region.
Latin America’s FinTech sector is still in its infancy with 32% of deals in the first half of 2022 being seed deals (58 seed deals in total). That’s more than double what the UK announced in the same period with Brazil accounting for 72% of these seed deals at 42 in total. It is clear that the region is innovating at a rapid rate and investors are taking full advantage of the underbanked, youthful population.
